Casa DS

Casa DS

Casa DS is a weekend residence conceived for a site in Tlazala, State of Mexico, within a small-scale setting closely connected to the surrounding woodland. The client commissioned AKURAT to develop an architectural proposal tailored to a specific personal program while taking advantage of the site’s elevated position and its primary views toward the forest.

The project’s main challenge was to accommodate a complex residential program on a property located within the town and surrounded by tall trees. The site’s natural slope became an opportunity to open the principal views, strengthen the relationship between the interior spaces and the landscape, and preserve the residence’s privacy from its immediate surroundings.

The concept organizes the program across two levels. The ground floor brings together the social areas and establishes direct connections to the gardens and outdoor terraces. The upper floor accommodates the private spaces, using the site’s elevation to orient the bedrooms and personal living areas toward the property’s best views.

Shared spaces are connected through a sequence of pedestrian routes that creates continuity between the different areas of the house. This organization was intended to support a domestic experience closely linked to the outdoors, with gardens, terraces, and circulation areas acting as extensions of the interior spaces.

The natural setting serves as the project’s primary conceptual framework. The proposal responds to the site’s physical characteristics, the presence of the forest, and construction practices associated with the area, seeking an architecture that could integrate naturally with both the landscape and the scale of the surrounding community.

AKURAT served as the architectural author and was responsible for developing the concept design. Its scope included the site-planning strategy, the overall organization of the program, the residence’s relationship with the sloping terrain and surrounding landscape, and the initial configuration of its interior and exterior spaces.

The project was subsequently paused and did not proceed to the executive design stage. AKURAT’s participation is therefore presented exclusively as concept design, without attributing construction documentation, engineering coordination, site supervision, or construction services to the firm.
